Awareness of the Workplace Toxicity is crucial in supporting positive workplace culture. It’s about helping to identify potential toxic behaviours and manage them. It’s about exploring the factors that result in high staff turnover, loss of productivity and the reputation of an organisation.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, there will be situations and people within our environment who have a negative impact. They can impact us and others around them, influencing and creating a ‘toxic’ culture. We all know that health and well-being in all aspects of our lives leads to well balanced approach to day to day events. Positive well-being contributes to reducing stress, building resilience, positivity and productivity.

Prolonged exposure to a toxic work environment can create mental ill health, stress, depression. It can affect the way to think about yourself and your abilities, undermining your self-esteem. This course has been firstly designed to help identify the components of any environment, at individual and organisational level. Secondly, we will provide strategies to help survive and even overcome toxicity, creating a more positive and balanced workplace!

What will I learn?

You will start by learning what workplace toxicity actually is, what triggers the toxicity and its causes and effects. Then, we’ll look at health & well-being at work, environment and how to promote positive mental health within the workplace, line managers and their role in supporting employees’ mental health.

Moving on, we’ll explore tension & discord in the workplace, dealing with tension and ask if workplace conflict inevitable?  Here ,we will explore working with difficult colleagues and co-workers and how managerial and leadership styles can impact positively or negatively.

Next, we explore in detail working with difficult colleagues and the bullying environment. We will share insight into victimisation, stigma, unconscious bias, targets and victims and personality traits. Then, we will identify vulnerable categories at higher risk of bullying and who are more at risk of  toxic individuals & their behaviours. We focus on the characteristics of the workplace bully and harassment behaviours. Following on, we’ll examine the characteristics of Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), and how they behave in the work environment.

Finally, we look at the process of confronting harassment, bullying or NPD. How to establish boundaries and the legality of harassment before focusing on being your best self and surviving the toxic workplace with strategies to create a balanced life balance to build your resilience and enjoyment in life.

Course Aim


If you find yourself struggling in the workplace, are a manager, or have a role in a training, advisory or supportive capacity, like in HR, this course will provide you with information and guidance on how to recognise and deal with toxic people and cultures.

Once completed, you will have the essential knowledge required to cope with individuals and organisational toxicity, and support others if they are victims of workplace toxicity, which will reduce stress, improve resilience and increase morale. As soon as the payment is received, you will have access to the course materials online where you can take as long as you want, or need, to work through the course and the activities.

Q: How long will I have access to the materials for?
You will have access to the course materials for 12 months, however if you need longer, just contact us to arrange to extend your access.

Q: Can I do more than one course at a time?
Yes, however you will need to set up a separate enrolment plan for each course.

Q: How are the courses structured?
Lessons are grouped into modules. Each lesson within a module has links to external sites for additional information and there are tutor challenges and activities. The tutor challenges are designed to add value to the course, and you do not need to submit any work to complete the course, and the activities form part of your self-development and self-discovery. We also recommend keeping a journal to make notes and record your thoughts and progress.

Q: Do I get a certificate?
Yes! At the end of each lesson there is a set of multiple-choice questions, you need to pass at 80% before moving on to the next lesson. Once you have completed all the modules. you will be able to download and save, or print, your very own Tides Online Certificate of Achievement for your records, or to show someone else that you have completed the course.

Q: Can I get hard copies of the course materials?
We can provide the materials as an e-book for you to print off and refer to, or provide the materials in printed form, however, you will still need to do the quizzes online in order to gain your certificate. Please contact us at for pricing information.
