Creating a Positive Mindset

Creating a positive mindset in 2021, especially in these strange times of restrictions and lockdown, is particularly challenging. We are at a time like we have never known, suspended in limbo, when everything we know and accept seems to be changing around us. It’s a lot to deal with, both mentally and physically.

Many welcome the restrictions placed upon us in the name of protection, but they are also completely unacceptable to others. Whatever your view, it looks like they are here to stay for a while, so now is the time for us to learn best how to deal with them.

Here, we are going to support you to navigate your own mental wellbeing as we adjust and adapt to this new era of change. We will refer to this time as ‘the pandemic’, not just in relation to the presence of any virus, but in relation to this time of accompanying restrictions  which affect our sense of social connection, positivity, balance and mental health.

Unlike the other courses, this is for information only, so there are no quizzes or tests.

What’s in it?

This excellent module is divided into three parts, or lessons, we are going to start part one by exploring your current mental state. How did we get here? We’ll look into how our emotions actually happen and the effects on our body. We’ll also look at ways we can try to reprogram how we react to certain triggers, and help to change the way our stress hormones affect us.

Secondly, we’ll look at how to cope now, with tips on self help first aid. How you can try to stop your triggers and focus on positive protective factors in your life, like family, pets and activities. This part is also packed with information on how you can balance your food intake to help promote your ‘happy hormones’, and explains the foods that can make you feel worse.

The third and final part is all about moving forward and coping with change. It’s an introduction to being mindful, acceptance and reflection. It’s about getting in tune with yourself and helping your mind to quiet. The last part will cover how and where to get help if you need it – there is a way to cope.

Course Aim


This is for you if you feel a little overwhelmed with the current restrictive situation. It’s not your fault if you can’t see much positivity with the constant media barrage of gloom, but you can find balance, and we can help you. We’ve put this together to help you understand how you got to where you are and how you can navigate yourself to a more positive mindset.



When you feel good, this resonates through your thoughts, your actions, reactions and relationships. You feel better. You are more patient, empathic, a better parent, partner, friend or colleague. You owe it to yourself to feel better.



A better frame of mind. A way of looking at everything from a different perspective reducing fear and connecting with the positive. Once you can do this, you will be able to help support those around you.

This is not assessed, this is for information only, so you just need to complete each lesson.

You will get a free Tides Online Certificate of Achievement when you have completed the three lessons

There are no formal requirements for entry, however, all materials are in English.


Q: How do I access the materials?
Once you have selected this as your course and enrolled, you will have access to the course materials online.

Q: How long will I have access to the materials for?
You will have access to the course materials for 12 months, however if you need longer, just contact us to arrange to extend your access.

Q: Can I do more than one course at a time?
Yes, if you decide to do another at the same time, you will need to set up a separate enrolment plan for each course. If you select another course you can enrol online. You can either pay in full, or if you have PayPal Credit, you will have the option to use PayPal Credit for the purchase if the course is over £99. As soon as the payment is received, you will have access to the course materials online where you can take as long as you want, or need, to work through the course and the activities. You can work on both courses at the same time if you want as they will appear in you 'My Courses' section in your dashboard once you have set up an account.

Q: How are the courses structured?
This course is one module split into three lessons. In other courses, lessons are grouped into modules. Each lesson within a module has links to external sites for additional information and there are tutor challenges and activities. The tutor challenges are designed to add value to the course, and you do not need to submit any work to complete the course, and the activities form part of your self-development and self-discovery. We also recommend keeping a journal to make notes and record your thoughts and progress.

Q: Do I get a certificate?
Yes! For the other courses available to purchase, at the end of each lesson there is a set of multiple-choice questions, you need to pass at 80% before moving on to the next lesson. Once you have completed all the modules. you will be able to download and save, or print, your very own Tides Online Certificate of Achievement for your records, or to show someone else that you have completed the course. This particular course also offers a certificate, but without the quizzes.

Q: What skills do I need to join this course?
An open mind and a willingness to learn and develop yourself is all you need to benefit from our courses and start your journey to becoming the best you can be. Please note that all materials are in English.

Q: Can I do the course if I live outside the UK?
Yes! This is an online course, so can be studied from anywhere, just remember that everything is in English and is geared to the situation in the UK.
