Promoting positive mental health can really impact on an individuals outlook and achievement. Mental health issues are normal part of everyday life. One in four people in the UK will experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem in any given year. Unfortunately, the long-standing stigma surrounding mental health means that many of us don’t really understand what mental health means.
There are healthy ways in which you can think about mental health, and there are unhealthy ways. Either way, mental health has to be taken seriously and stigma must be systematically stamped out!
Good mental health is not simply the absence of poor mental health, but a set of strategies that we can practice to promote positive mental health and well-being. We will look at what can affect a person’s mental health. This will include where and how you were brought up, what has happened to you throughout your life. It will also be determined by your current circumstances, your personality and a host of other factors. All these will ensure that you can really understand and grasp the concept of mental health.
What will I learn in promoting positive mental health?
In the first module; mental health, mental ill-health and well- being, you will improve own understanding and knowledge of mental health. You will learn how to help de-stigmatise mental ill health. Lastly in this module, you will understand how to help ourselves and support others in maintaining good mental health and well-being.
Moving onto the second and final module, we look into promoting better mental health & well-being at work. First you study how to increase awareness of mental health and well-being issues in the workplace. Secondly, you will understand how to help promote a mental health aware culture within the workplace. Finally, we will work through how to help ourselves and support others in maintaining good mental health and well-being at work.
So, in summary, this course will provide a healthier approach so that you can help yourself and the people around you have happier, more fulfilling lives for longer. Courses that compliment this include Developing Coaching Skills and Developing Emotional Intelligence.
