Impostor syndrome is based on the idea that you’ve only accomplished something, or succeeded, due to luck, and not because of your talent or qualifications.
This course will empower you to recognise negative behaviours in yourself and others. It will also provide strategies and tools to help you overcome these hurdles as and when they arise.
What will I learn?
In the first module, we begin dissecting the psychology of imposter syndrome (IS). We learn about the origins and features of imposter syndrome and what it actually is. We also cover the discovery and characteristics of IS and compare those to anxiety & depression among other characteristics.
Recognising the emotional traits of imposter syndrome in yourself and in others looks at the types of people affected, why and how, the emotional & behavioural symptoms, and how IS affects life chances.
Finally in this first module, we look at how to combat undermining self-effacing patterns of behaviour. Explore techniques for developing behaviour modification strategies, like positive self-talk. Look at how to react to comments by others and the assumptions and interpretation of opinions of others.
Module 2 explores how to become the best advocate for yourself and others. It is here that we start to unveil strategies for developing confidence and assertiveness. Building confidence through improving your interpersonal skills, i.e. body language, eye contact, facial expressions. Communication, including inner self-talk and external talking-up.
We research additional sources of guidance when referral is advisable, like counselling. Take an overview on the different therapeutic models that might help with comparisons and sources.
Finally, the last part is promoting yourself and others for professional success. In this last lesson, we discuss CV profiles, interview & presentation techniques to present yourself in the best light and believe in yourself!
You will identify and address negative thought and behaviour patterns that undermine your self-worth and confidence. Accept and celebrate your achievements, accomplishments and ultimately evolve into your own style of leadership!

Lessons are grouped into modules. Each lesson within a module has links to external sites for additional information and there are tutor challenges and activities. The tutor challenges are designed to add value to the course, and you do not need to submit any work to complete the course, and the activities form part of your self-development and self-discovery. We also recommend keeping a journal to make notes and record your thoughts and progress.
Q: Do I get a certificate?
Yes! At the end of each lesson there is a set of multiple-choice questions, you need to pass at 80% before moving on to the next lesson. Once you have completed all the modules. you will be able to download and save, or print, your very own Tides Online Certificate of Achievement for your records, or to show someone else that you have completed the course.
Q: Can I get hard copies of the course materials?
